Warsaw was very cool. The city was amazing, and the night... well, let's just say it lasted all night long... ouch. I don't know how much longer my body is going to last on this european contract though.

Old Town

I took Friday off work, and went for 3 days/nights this time. It was cheaper to book a hotel (only 40 euro!) on Thursday and fly Thursday night than to fly on Friday, so it worked out quite well. First, I tried to killl myself on Friday with an old style death march. I don't do them as much as I used to, but I knew Warsaw was very big, USSR style construction and all, and I wanted to see a lot of it, so 11 hours of walking later... I pulled a muscle in my leg. I guess I should have streched first, who would have thought. But, very nice city, lot and lots of green and parks (even more than Vancouver), which is really really nice. I think I took the most pictures of anywhere I have been so far since I got my digital!! Not as picturesque as Russia though, most of the palaces (and there was dozens!) were the same style, so became a little routine after a while. So, after that, I went to take a nap, and as I thought might happen when I woke up I had no desire to go see the clubs... oh well. It's probably best, because then on Saturday I was able to get up early an continue the sight-seeing trek.

War Memorial

So, on Saturday, I saw the rest of the city that I wanted to see. I took it at a much easier pace though, I had to as my leg was still sore. It was very relaxing though, to be out walking at 9am on a Saturday in the parks with very few other people. I quite enjoyed it. So after only about 4 hours sightseeing, I went shopping!! My friends would be very proud of me!! Well, I was also kinda out of clothes as I only brought a couple of light color summer t-shirts and the weather has been amazingly hot and nice so far... so on Friday I had bought one shirt (because I needed one for Saturday or I would have been wearing black in 35 degree weather! So I also knew the prices were pretty good (very good for europe), only about $14 (cdn) for a t-shirt. So, I knew I wanted to do some shopping for Ibiza, don't want to be shopping there or London for that matter and paying 3 times as much for the same clothes... so any ways got i think 6 shirts!! and a pair of shorts!!! Can you believe it? I was very happy with myself. (PS. I hate! shopping for anyone who doesn't know). So any ways, after that I had a nice lunch, polish pork thing? (Friday I had cabbage rolls, they were not the best, but then it was in the middle of the old town square, "the" most touristy place in the city. And after that got my hair buzzed (for Ibiza) and went back to hotel early for a nap so this time I would not sleep through the night!!

Palace on the Water

So Saturday night was a very much up and down night. Because I started my nap so early, I was up and awake by 9pm and ancy to get going. There was (as usual) only CNN and BBC in english on the hotel TV, and there is only so much of those channels I can watch. So I went to this club Utopia first. I had read a lot of stuff on the internet that it may be hard to get into. It's a very trendy place, with velvet rope and they look you up and down and say yes or no kinds thing. Quite sad I thought, but still wanted to try it out because who know could be fun. Was a little worried might not be all gay too because apparently it is one of the in places for polish celebrities... etc. etc. blah blah blah... But still, I had to try, who know if I would ever be back. I wasn't sure if I would get in or not, but it turned out to be real easy, you just have to be dressed nice I think because other bars I went to (coming up) lots of polish people were simply in old ragged t-shirts and jeans, etc. So any ways, I got there (to Utopia) at 11pm and the bouncer was like, you can go in, but you're not going to want to because there is litterally no one there yet... yeash, He says come back later as it gets busy between 1 and 2am... oh well. So I go to the next bar on the pub crawl agenda. It's called Barbiebar and well... I know bad name but you can't judge a book, and it was real close. Oh my good! It was so horrible, It was quite busy already, but not packed, but the average age of all the say 50 people in there could not have been over 18. Holy romper room batman! It was even worse than any teen-boy London club, like A LOT worse. So needless to say I didn't stay at all. They were having a great time dancing on the bars and partying though and if I was about 15 years younger it would have been a great bar.

Construction

So on to the next bar. And at this point it was about a 1/2 hour walk away, and I was very glad to see that the city has many taxis out, esp a night, so I was able to take cabs for the long hauls which was very good otherwise would have been another death-walk-by-night. Any ways, next was club called Toro. First club of the night with an (!) exclamation mark in Spartacus (which is usually pretty good at judging to great clubs, but there were wrong here. It was an alright crowd which was good after the last bar, but very 3rd world style club! Not light, decent sound, or music. They played very bizzare music and it was almost like a warehouse no renos done very bizzare hard to explain, except that I knew I was in eastern europe.. I just thought with 15 years they could have done a little improvement on the clubs... the previous bar (Barbie) was like this as well, but i thought with the age they didn't mind no neccesities in their clubs, but appaeretly it was a common theme... exact opposite of London mega-clubs. It was alright though, very mixed men, women, young, old. So stayed for few drinks.

Soldiers

Next was to a club called Paradise, which was also listed with a (!) and billed biggest in Warsaw, so I thought the end-up or last place I would visit that night. Well... again disaster. Yeah, it was big. yeah it was more western than the other, It actually had disco lights, and music not just spotlights or christmas light!!! And it had pretty decent music and very good sound system. Somewhere my friends would have liked. Only one thing missing... people!! There was no one there!!! I thought this can't be right, it's the best club I've seen. So maybe it's a still early. So I waited for an hour. No one arrived. YEASH!

Oh well. So, I was tired by this point, and caught a cab, and was planning on going back to hotel at this point (2:30), but then in the cab I remembered the first velvet rope place was right beside my hotel, so thought might as well try it out again.

Statue of Chopin

Oh lord! The saving grace of the night!! It was very very busy and very very trendy! Still not a disco at all, more like a cocktail bar/club packed with people dancing away. Very friendly people, how can you not be when you're jamed in next to people. Lots of different little rooms and bars, etc. kinda like Numbers in Vancouver layout but bigger and very good looking mixed crowd. A couple of vip sections even within club.

I even got a CD of the clubs music when I went in from the "stuffy" doorman as the internet said in one article. Haven't listened to it yet. Can't remember if I liked the music there or not.. yes by this time, and esp when I got somewhere I liked (finally!) the drinks started to flow. Not sure how much I had but since they were open quite late 7am?, I'm sure a few too many for sure.

Any way, met some people, as usual and a cute boy, very cute, so can't remember when, but when they closed... and then somehow I managed to find myself in the Polish afterhours... of course... yeash! It's like last summer in the UK all over. It was an alright place, again it was like Paradise though, very nice place, but no people. But then we went out on a patio they had seats in the shade for the morning and that was quite pleasant.

Palace of Culture

But as I stated in the beginning I don't know how my body can handle it because we stayed there all morning! So I was up all night!! About 1pm I said, listen I have to go because my flight was at 4:30. The people I was with of course had nothing to do but I was so tired... and of course making out with the cute boy was the only thing keeping me there until that time, so mostly it's all my fault any ways... So any ways, finally I go back to the hotel, freshen up, more making out, but nothing serious as one of his friends had tagged along with us as well, and then I barely made my flight home!! YEASH! I think I need to retire soon...

So that was about it, an hour sleep on the plane, thank goodness no one was in the middle seat beacuse I've been told that my skin can give off "odors" after an all-night binge! My stomach anti-acid pills worked very good though, not too serious of a stomach ache. I did take two of them though, common practice now-a-days. And then I had a 2 hours dirve from Amsterdam to Antwerp, and then a 10 hour sleep Sunday night and I felt pretty good Monday morning!

Well except for the bar-bruises that I am not sure how I got... must have been the crowds of people... oh well. All in all another very good weekend... that put together with the other "good" weekends will eventually take years off of my lifespan... Oh well! :)
